The Beauty of Restoration
In the last few days, I have seen some amazing places left to wrack and ruin because of neglect. A wonderful kloof in Krugersdorp, where the potential for restoration is huge. It has a house over 100 years old on it; one pristine stream and one AMD affected stream; precious plants and animals amongst the invasives.
Most of all, here a Museum of Africa Music was set up and then exported to Grahamstown. The grandson of the creator of this Museum wants to bring this heritage back to Gauteng. What a wonderful gift! He also works with traditional healers and sangomas, offering them refuge in this amazing and sacred place.
I look at our rivers on the catchment and see that they also need this love; need the communities to embrace them, to make clean water their focus so that children can thrive as well as plants and animals.
Being Green no longer means being a "Bunny Hugger"! It means being a planet conservationist; a true lover of the human race; an environmentalist; a defender of the poorest of the poor and a creator of sustainable wealth. We have to restore our water sources to purity if we are to live. We have to create sustainalbe jobs; educate people and decrease our population growth internationally if we do not want to be the seventh extinction. The hour is NOW - seize it!
